Wisconsin Union Dispute: Governors Against Walker

Unlike Gov. Christie, not all Governors are supporting Gov. Walker and his new Bill. For instance, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy has come out in direct support of Wisconsin Union workers. Joining Conn. union member’s rally to support the Wis. unions, Gov. Malloy said that he was “proud to stand with you [the union rallying union members] and the workers of Wisonsin.” Id.

Likewise, other Governors are voicing their distaste with Gov. Walker’s actions. Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana stated that “[e]very governor has to use his own model. But I don’t know how this one  ends in a good way.” Sam Stein, Democratic Governor To Walker: ‘You Are Cutting Your Own Throat’ February 25, 2011 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/25/democratic-governor-to-walker_n_828363.html. Similarly, according to Gov. Pat Quinn of Illinois, “everybody knows it is important to have collective bargaining. It is the best way to resolve differences, and what’s happening in Wisconsin, I don’t think will spread anywhere.” Id.

What kills me is that there is really no difference between the structure & purpose of a union & a corporation. If one should no longer be allowed to negotiate government contracts or lobby for friendlier politicians, neither should the other. Just my take.
